Three years and two EP’s into their short but ascendant career, Telenova announce their debut album ‘Time Is A Flower’, out August 16th, and share a brand new single “Power”. To celebrate the release of debut album ‘Time Is A Flower’, which can be pre-ordered here now, the Melbourne three piece unveil their biggest tour yet, a vast international journey covering Australia, New Zealand, UK and Europe throughout much of 2024.
Taking their distinct brand of cinematic alt-pop to the dancefloor, “Power” is sleek, evolved disco with a shadowy twist. Crafted with Grammy-nominated producer Styalz Fuego (Troye Sivan, Tate McRae, Odesza), “Power” follows previous single “Teardrop” and finds Telenova at their peak – weaving themes of love, fear, and the pursuit of light into a lush, ornate track full of suspense and drive.
Angeline Armstrong says, “It’s a cry of a human being reaching out to something bigger, not wanting to be abandoned. The song resonates on various levels, from romantic love to a deeper spiritual connection. Beneath the disco-infused beats lies a multi-layered narrative of love and existential longing.”
Reflecting on the genesis of the song, Joshua Moriarty shares, “We started from scratch in the studio with Styalz, and Angeline wrote the vocal melody that day during the session. The metaphor of a flower in love with the setting sun emerged, symbolising the fear of being left alone in darkness.”
“Power” encapsulates Telenova’s signature sound – cinematic, moody, and infused with candid poise. With influences ranging from Portishead and Massive Attack to Lana Del Rey and Mitski, the band creates a sonic landscape that is both familiar and refreshingly unique.
The accompanying music video, directed by Angeline Armstrong herself, is a colourful and playful representation of the song’s narrative. Armstrong, who also stars in the video as the ‘flower’, invites viewers into a wonderland of theatrical scenescapes, all built by hand for the video, each one echoing the themes of love and longing in the portrayal of the ‘flower’ reaching out towards the setting sun.
To support the release of “Power” & “Teardrop” and the announcement of debut album, ‘Time Is A Flower’, Telenova will embark on a headline international tour beginning in May, across Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK, including an appearance at Athens’ biggest music festival ‘Release’ in June.
This follows their first major run through Europe in 2023, playing headline shows in London, Paris, Athens, Berlin and Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival, performing live on Athens’ primetime national radio station En Lefko, in addition to supporting RUEL on his European tour. As a homecoming, Telenova capped the year off with an indelible set at the revered Meredith Music Festival in Victoria.
